April Showers
By Dafne Nienhuys. Thursday 21st April 2011 our Monthly meeting started at 18h30 after our Sergeant at Arms Lance Brown gave the Call to order. The Welcome & Loyal Toast as well as the agenda amendments followed by our President Glenn Simpson. Our President also entertained us as toastmaster of the evening, telling many great stories on April Showers. The toast of the evening was done by Diane Mallaby-Kilpin, before we started with the Speaker Assignments.
New Beginning
Written by Barry Ger Our first meeting of the year, in fact, the first meeting of the new decade (if you are one of those people who count from 1 and not from 0), got off to late start. Lance Brown, the Sergeant-at-arms called the meeting to order at 18h15, exactly half an hour later than the time set out in the agenda but that was only because our excellent Vice President of Education, Dafne Nienhuys, had been cheerfully optimistic … Continue reading
When Opportunity Knocks

The THEME: When Opportunity Knocks The President, Glenn Simpson (also acting as sergeant of arms ) opened the Meeting He introduced us to our Toastmaster, Bill Russell, who has visited 4 clubs in Cape Town and has been member of toastmasters for over 15 years in the UK. Bill offered to organize the meeting London style and we could enjoy a well organized … Continue reading
Oktoberfest
By Nadine McLean Da Silva Es war eine wundervolle Nacht! Indeed it was, the night when the E&Y Toastmasters club meeting took place in the spirit of Oktoberfest. No venue could have been better suited for this exquisite occasion other than Paulaner Brauhaus at the V&A Waterfront. It would have been a mistake to think that the cool weather would have any impact or effect on the proceedings of the evening. The air was fresh, the skies were cloudy and … Continue reading
E & Y Comedy Festival
Written by Lance Brown Our Sergeant at Arms, Lance Brown called the meeting to order. We had a full house with many guests attending. The club president, Glenn Simpson then welcomed everyone and the guests introduced themselves. Glenn then set the tone for the evening and immediately we could feel the excitement in the air. Nicky Abdinor announced a few agenda amendments and then introduced Table Topics. Her topic was an internet dating service and the individuals had to do … Continue reading
Make the Circle Bigger
Written by Dafne Nienhuys Our new Sergeant at Arms, Lance Brown gave the call to order. On this cold evening the Welcome & Loyal Toast followed by the new President, Glenn Simpson. A warm welcome to our returning guest Etelvina from E&Y and Sean Griffiths, visiting various clubs to make the right choice (we know it’s with E&Y toastmasters!) There were no Agenda Amendments so Rehana Rutti, wearing a beautiful blue wig, gave us examples of how to make the … Continue reading
AYOBA
Written by Lindsay Gibson The Sergeant at Arms for the evening, Glenn Simpson, ensured we started on time and allowed Eric Edelstein the club’s current president to welcome everyone, especially those who were visiting. Glenn shared the house rules for the evening including a warning that no vuvuzela’s were to be blown during the course of the evening. Shortly on the heels of Eric leaving the podium Lloyd Dicks, the toastmaster of the evening, exploded into the front of the … Continue reading
MayDay
Written by Dafne Nienhuys At a higher level than normally, the 5th floor of the E&Y house instead of the 1st, the Sergeant at Arms, Michele Beaumont gave a call to order. Philip Roberson organized the welcome, especially the 9 guests, stood up for Africa and All its people in the Loyal toast and went through the agenda amendments (which there were none). An emergency situation developed when Schalk Joubert entered the room, being the Toast master of the evening, … Continue reading
Are you Game?
Written by William Kufal It was a cold winter’s night in down-town Cape Town and only the fittest and bravest of the Toastmaster Elites had ventured out for another exhilerating evening on the E+Y Toastmaster playing field. Sergeant at Arms Glenn Simpson called the players to order and our Toastmaster of the Evening, Michelle Beaumont inspired us with the famous olympic motto: “Citius, Altius, Fortius” (faster, higher, stronger).
Mayor-Noise!
By William Kufal My second meeting as a member of E&Y TM was held in the 4th floor Boardroom, being the first time in many years that this venue was used since only Lloyd Dicks knows when…. It was a cosy venue and the smokers enjoyed the balcony views during the breaks. Glenn Simpson called us to order and Lloyd Dicks introduced the theme “Mayor-Noise” by way of a detailed mayonnaise recipe (2 eggs, salt and mustard powder, oil and … Continue reading
