Hello Elaine,
At our club, we usually take a drink as way of toasting. We would hate to spill it, and applauding would no doubt lead to this. So therefore we don’t applaud after the loyal toast.

More seriously, I don’t think there is any rule which says we don’t applaud after the loyal toast, or did I miss it? I am sure I have been to clubs where they do. Many clubs have different protocols and customs.
